Bicycling is a healthy, fun and popular activity that gets harder with age. Electric bikes help people cycle longer and happier.
E-bikes improve mobility, transportation costs, air quality, and recreational access, especially for older adults -- who are the primary owners of e-bikes. Approximately 1 in 6 U.S. adults ages 50 and older own an e-bike; almost 90% of e-bike riders are 45 years or older. In Lebanon, nearly 40% of residents are ages 50 and up. E-bikes are a great fit for helping Lebanon's residents and visitors get around our city.
The E-Bike Project is working with the City of Lebanon to apply for grants to fund an e-bike charging station. This would be the first public e-bike charging station in the Upper Valley (with the next closest 26 miles away in Danbury) and also a much-needed covered bike parking facility.
The E-Bike Project envisions an open-sided shelter bolted to an existing concrete pad outside the east end of the Lebanon tunnel, alongside the Northern Rail Trail and within easy walking distance of Colburn Park, the Lebanon Opera House, City Hall, restaurants, and more. The E-Bike Charging Station would have racks to park six bikes and six 110-volt electrical outlets for charging. (Bring your own charge cord.)
Charging would be fee-free. Donations to the E-Bike Project would cover the cost of the electricity in order to a) not burden the City, and b) benefit lower-income riders who cannot afford a car or access to charging at home. Donations to the E-Bike Project also could help us explore the possibility of adding a second charging station, in West Lebanon, and support e-bike riding in other ways.
Please add your donation to help power an E-Bike Charging Station and advance e-bike riding in Lebanon!
